Chimney Inspection

Your chimney's upkeep is part of what keeps your home safe and sound.

An inspection of your chimney by a certified technician is the only way to know if your chimney system is suitable for continued use.

There are three levels of inspection defined by the NFPA:

Level 1

A level 1 inspection is a visual inspection of all readily accessible areas of the chimney and appliance.

A level 1 inspection comes with all chimney cleanings.

The NFPA requires at least a level 1 inspection annually

Level 2

A level 2 inspection includes everything in a level 1 inspection plus further examination of the chimney in accessible areas such as the attic or the crawl space.

A level 2 inspection is required if a level 1 inspection indicates there has been damage to the chimney

A level 2 inspection is required when a there is a modification or damage to the chimney system.

A level 2 inspection is also required by the NFPA during a real estate transfer

Level 3

A level 3 inspection is necessary when either a level 1 or 2 inspection indicates there are hidden problems within the chimney.

It includes everything in a level 2 inspection as well as the inspection of the inaccessible parts of the chimney that may require small demolition to access.

The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) requires all chimneys, fireplaces, and vents to be inspected at least annually to ensure they are free of debris, blockages and creosote.

The NFPA also requires a level 2 inspection upon real estate sale or transfer.
